The
Plastics industrial Chain in Mexico is:

The most significant segment in the Chemical Industry.

It
gathers over 4,000 companies.

There
are only a few resin producers and capital good manufacturers,
and many plastics processors.

About 90% are small companies.
-
About half of the existing companies are based in Mexico
City and its metropolitan area.

72% of the companies use only 3 processes: injection,
extrusion and blow molding.
In
Plastic Material and Product Imports, Mexico rates:
- World’s # 7 after China, US, Germany, France, UK and
Italy.
- World’s #11 in Plastic Materials.
- World’s # 4 in Plastic Products.
- Developing World’s #2 after China 24.8 percent of
U.S. exports of resins went to Canada in 2003; 18.6 percent
went to Mexico.
- Mexico took 30 percent of U.S. per se plastics products
exports during 2003, and those exports grew 5.8 percent
per year over the past five years – a significant
slowdown.
- Canada accounted for 40.6 percent of U.S. mold exports in
2003, while Mexico accounted for 30.9 percent.
- Canada is also the biggest destination for U.S. plastics
industry exports. Mexico is second, and China is third.
